About Juan Guízar

‘An essential element of any art is risk. If you don’t take a risk, then how are you going to make something really beautiful, that hasn’t been seen before?’
This quote, by American film director, Francis Ford Coppola, fits Juan Guízar like a glove. Juan sees the world from a different, fresh and new perspective, he is not afraid of taking risks to pursue his dream: make art.
Born in Mexico in 1978, Juan moved with his family to Madrid at the young age of seven, yet, he remains deeply attached to his Mexican roots including music, food and, of course, the diversity of its art tradition.
Juan’s inspiration arises from his experiences traveling all around the world for work, which eventually drove him to Geneva, where he currently lives. Recently, he took the risk to quit his job to devote his energy to developing his creativity. Being a multidisciplinary artist, Juan performs his artwork in many ways and interprets reality either through his painting or with his camera.
The surrounding nature in its multiple facets and colors as well as the emotions of being a father for the first time, and his young daughter Federica, are Juan’s primitive sources of inspiration.
Through an accurate self-learned technique, what deeply appeals to the observer of Juan’s work is the sensation of lightness and even aerial feeling, as if the botanical images were part of a dream. Some pieces’ subtle mood turn into a hyper-realistic style with such a precision that we wonder whether they are really watercolors and not photographs. Juan strikes you, again.
These reactions can only be triggered by an artist that, beyond the aesthetics of his compositions, has the two conditions required to take chances in life: passion and honesty.
