Kim Rodeffer Funk

I was born in 1958 to a young couple while my father served in the air force in Mississippi, United States.

I have been interested in creative endeavors since I was a child, but from an early age I was encouraged to pursue more practical goals by the rural community in which I grew up. In college I shocked my friends and family by changing my major to interior design, which is a blend of practical and creative skills. It was not until my early 40s that I moved from the drafting board to the art studio, and finally started what I had not been able to learn in my youth.

I enjoy mixed medium works along with pure acrylic paintings, mainly on canvas. I find working on a larger scale is freeing for me, yet smaller pieces present excellent challenges from time to time.

I have been fortunate to be able to move around the United States and Europe over the last 25 years, and my travels have greatly influenced my work. I find a great deal of creativity in travel and learning about new cultures. I find creative sparks in many ways, such as nature, literature, travel, music, art supplies, found objects, textiles, architectural materials and even in natural and personal disasters. My education is in interior design, a field I have worked in on and off over the last 28 years. My area of expertise is in pediatric health care and other environments for children and those who support them. I have and still am an interior design tutor.

Painting became an extension of interior design and now it is my profession. I view the world in an abstract way and feel the emotions of my life are expressed in my art.,
