About Kos Cos

As humans, some of us have the ability to find meaning in our suffering, no matter the situation.

The Covid-19 epidemic has greatly influenced my most recent work. I translate the isolation and social distancing that I experienced into vividly colourful, abstract spaceships in a shape of a human face.

I’ve always been drawn to portraits because of the complexity of the human face and the continuously changing expressions.

Although it’s how I started my career, I knew I had to go beyond being a contemporary portrait artist in order to make a mark in the art world. That’s when I started to push my limits, by experimenting with my technique and subjects. I now have my own unique style that reflects the love for portraits and colours in abstract form. I now have the confidence to apply this new artistic language to my canvas and sculptures.

Born into an artistic family in Sri Lanka, I began drawing and painting at an early age. In the golden age of hand-drawn billboards and signage, my playground was my father's outdoor advertising agency and my early influences. In 1999, I moved to Hong Kong to work in an advertising agency. I quit my job in 2019, and I now work as a full-time artist.
