Lorraine Whelan

I was born in Toronto to an Irish immigrant family. I moved to Ireland shortly after my university graduation and had my first solo show in Dublin in 1988. Since then, I married, had a child, and continued developing my practice. I have exhibited throughout Ireland, in both group and solo shows, as well as abroad (France, China, Canada, UK) in group exhibitions. In 2022, I had another solo exhibition in Dublin at Rathfarnham Castle.

During the pandemic, I exhibited online and was featured by CIACLA (Contemporary Irish Art Centre LA). I had a solo exhibition with Tiny Cat Gallery (Bristol), and had my work exhibited as part of group projects by Pragmata Collective (UK) and Cultivate Gallery/Collective (UK).

Also during the pandemic, I maintained a curiosity about process and media and, as well as enjoying many remote theatre, opera, music and literary events, I attended numerous remote artist talks and symposia and delighted to learn new skills.

In the spring of 2016 as an ARC MA student at IADT, I took part in a collaborative project at IMMA and my interest in printmaking was renewed. Most recently I have been working on paintings, monoprints, and drawings for my forthcoming exhibitions, Lost Moments, at Pearse Museum, Dublin (...
