Mark Wydler

Raised in Rochdale, Lancashire, I was painting and drawing obsessively from an early age and this is still the case. My early influences were the wild Pennine moorlands, the radical freedom of punk music and classical painting.

I am inspired by the rich complexity of modern life and I want to express something of its paradoxes, clashes and beauty. I use images from contemporary reality, diverse cultures, history and the natural world. In my paintings I use techniques including the dripping and pouring of paint, stencils, printing and drawing to create multi-layered effects.
