Polly Nuttall strives to capture what silently unites us, the common shared unspoken experiences that are stronger than our apparent differences. Her vibrant yet ethereal paintings with their delicate translucent brush strokes and evocative paint drips have a quiet charm that gives us a glimpse into an intimate moment of beauty.
Polly works from her own carefully taken photographs which she digitally manipulates and translates into oil on canvas in her studio, where they evolve into a more complex image. Her paintings transcend the moment captured by the original photograph and invite the viewer to in to look longer and reflect on the subject in depth. Her portraits of empty blue chairs let us conjure our own ghosts while her delicate still lives of flowers encourage us to imagine our own inner peace.
Polly Nuttall studied at St Martins School of Art and comes from a distinguished family of academics, artists and poets including British Pop Art legend Richard Hamilton, artist Rita Donagh, writer and scholar A. D. Nuttall and bohemian poet and actor Jeff Nuttall. Polly continues in the family tradition, pragmatically re-assessing traditional subject matters with her beautifully tranquil and poignant paintings.
