Roxana Khonkulova

My art explores the theme of intimacy, a reflection of the desire for deep and safe connection in a society that often seems withdrawn. It is not just about creating visual images, it aims to evoke meaningful change and offer a new perspective on our everyday interactions.

My work echoes my childhood in post-Soviet Kazakhstan, where emotional openness and the desire for intimacy were not always echoed. In my work, I strive to overcome the inherited emotional closure by filling the void and restoring lost connections. This underlying theme permeates my work and opens the door to true understanding and a deeper dialog than any possible between people in normal life.

2019-2020: Courses at the Kazakh National University of Arts (Shabyt) "Painting, Sculpture, Graphics", Astana, Kazakhstan.
2021-2022: ART-Performance Evening Painting School, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan.

On February 26, 2026, a solo exhibition by artist Roksana Khonkulova took place in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan. The event was held at the Dedeman Oskemen Tavros Hotel and took the form of a private opening, attended by approximately 40 guests. The exhibition featured 44 of the artist’s paintings. Previously, Roksana Khonkulova participated in exhibition projects organized by the Art Voyage Gallery in Switzerland - in the cities of Zurich and Zofingen. The artist took part in both the gallery’s physical exhibition projects and its digital exhibition.
