Martin Sloan is a British artist based in Malaysia whose gestural abstractions channel the intensity, instability, and sensory pressure of Kuala Lumpur’s climate. Trained in Fine Art at Sunderland University, his practice centres on transient layers shaped by movement, memory, and the shifting conditions of place. Working exclusively in acrylic due to the tropical heat, Sloan builds his surfaces through rapid pigment pulls, erasure, scraping, and the use of Malaysian earth pigments and botanical impressions gathered from his garden. His ongoing Heat Bloom series translates humidity, colour turbulence, and the psychological rhythm of life in Malaysia into a distinct, atmospheric visual language. His work is held in private collections across Malaysia, the UK, Europe, and the United States.
