Artist Statement
My paintings begin with questions about the human being and the self.
Images emerge through accidental marks, recurring scenes, and traces of memory. I build, erase, and layer these traces, allowing figures, fragments, and landscapes to appear and disappear on the surface.
I am interested in the space between what has happened and what is remembered — between nature and the human figure, and between lived experience and the narrative that remains.
Rather than simply representing nature, I want the painting itself to become a place where traces of nature, memory, and human presence can remain.
My recent work explores how memory becomes an image, and how an image becomes a narrative. Through layers of color, erasure, drawing, and figurative elements, I seek to create a surface in which different moments of time can coexist.
“The Technique of Memory, Narrative” is an ongoing body of work that examines the relationship between memory, image, and narrative.
“From the Hill” explores human presence and memory through the landscape.
