Sherrard Grauer

Sherrard Grauer was born in Toronto, Ontario but was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She currently lives in Cowichan Station on Vancouver Island. Her early influences were first her mother, who painted portraits and gave Sherry brushes and paints to play with at an early age. She attended L'Ecole du Louvre and then recieved her BFA from the California School of Fine Arts. Grauer defines herself as a West Coast painter. The natural world of the West Coast as well as the art and the urban life of both San Francisco and Vancouver shape her work. Grauer works mostly in acrylic and canvas. These canvases are often shaped into relief. She has also worked with wire, stainless steel, or other metallics in three dimensions. Grauer is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art. She has exhibited in Canada since 1963, and also in the United States and England. She has had many corporate, private, and public commissions since 1969, notably the Ministry of Transport, Cornwall. Ont.; and in Vancouver, B.C.: Wesgar Industries, and Foreshore Projects.
