I’ve always felt that you can best understand the truth about something—a person or a place—when you soften your focus a bit. The hard lines come with too many preconceived ideas and emotions. I think that’s why I’m attracted to impressionist paintings and sculptures that tend toward the abstract.

This isn’t to say that realist works aren’t enlightening in their own way. But for me, the engaging essence of a thing is found somewhere in its blurry beauty.

And, of course, maybe I just need to get my eyes checked.

I’m a self-taught artist who has spent decades studying the works of legendary impressionist painters like Monet, Degas, Manet, Cezanne, and Cassatt, as well as living legends like C.W. Mundy and Dan McCaw.

My style is most influenced by Massachusetts-based fine artist Joshua Meyer. His gorgeous paintings, with their “lost-and-found” figures, never cease to mesmerize me. While I’ve not studied under him, I feel as though I’ve memorized every stroke of every painting he’s ever produced, having stared at them at length so many times!
