Joana Ribeiro Da Silva

My work is driven more by emotion than perfection, by the tension between softness and intensity, silence and chaos, vulnerability and power. I am fascinated by faces that seem to carry untold stories and by eyes that reveal both fragility and defiance.
Working through expressive lines, monochromatic contrasts, and textured surfaces, I try to capture what cannot easily be explained in words: memory, longing, resilience, sensuality, and emotional depth. My paintings are less about realism and more about presence: the feeling someone leaves behind in a room.
I draw inspiration from cinema, fashion imagery, poetry, music, urban textures, and the complexity of human emotion. I am especially inspired by women with strong identities: enigmatic figures who feel both distant and deeply intimate at the same time.
For me, painting is not simply about creating an image. It is about revealing an atmosphere, a tension, a fragment of emotional truth.
