Penelope Hunter

I am based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
I began exhibiting my work in various South African art
galleries from 2000.

My work initially consisted of decorative figure studies and moved on to experimentation with a range of mediums and techniques.
Some of my favourite subject matter includes wildlife, people and landscapes.

I work with both oils or acrylic, sometimes embracing mixed media. My paintings often include impasto and elements of abstraction. A large proportion of my work is commissioned by international art collectors.

South Africa is such a diverse and magical country to live in, there is no shortage of inspiration to share through my work.

My late father was an artist- he taught me so much, especially in areas of anatomy, perspective and colour use.
Experimentation, sometimes mistakes and the and joy of creating have lead me on a long and happy artistic path.

"The Many Facets of the Highveld": November 2009, at Little Brenthurst. The exhibition was a partnership initiative between De Beers, the Diamond Route (an ecological, heritage and tourism initiative) and the South African National Biodiversity Institute, SANBI.
