Safiye Otman

For me, art is not merely expression; it is a form of liberation, resistance, and making the invisible visible. Each layer echoes the voices of women silenced throughout history.

My understanding of art is to fly and never land on earth. Because freedom lies beyond borders, in that boundless space freed from gravity.

I depict the multilayered state of being a woman: a veil covering a wound, a hidden cry, or light overflowing from memory… Each of my works transcends an individual narrative and rewrites the collective female memory.

Art cannot be liberated without women being liberated. My practice is based on giving voice to the silent, eyes to the invisible, and a voice to the silenced. Because both art and life multiply with women. And I speak from within that multiplication.
