Valentina Hotz

My style can be described as Magic Realism, where reality and dreams intertwine. In the manner of Leonor Fini, Paul Delvaux, and Rene Magritte, my paintings offer an alternate concept of reality. Drawing together the explicable and inexplicable, the expected and unexpected, I invite the viewer to see the world in all its wondrous complexity.

Each of my paintings is a story. A story which often begins for me from music or poetry, joy or sadness, light or shade, flowers, people around me – everything that surrounds us – visible or intangible. I would call it vibration, a peculiar blending of the external and inner worlds that turns into almost inaudible music. The central idea of my paintings is the liaison between people, Universe and Nature.

I was commissioned to design a collectible coin for the Royal Canadian Mint and I have had several large commissions for mural paintings.

My works are in many private collections in Canada, USA, South Africa, England, Germany and France, and on the covers of several books.
