David Greene

I am the chair of the Forestry Department at Humboldt State University. Painting is a part of my research program (it sharpens my ability to see nature) as well as my teaching (as I teach others how to see nature).

I have published almost 100 refereed papers on a number of topics but primarily the regeneration of trees. Those decades of field experience form the subject matter for the art.

Each painting is an attempt to instruct and is accompanied by a description of what is being depicted. In particular, I do not focus on patterns, but rather on the processes that give rise to the patterns.
