Ketty Haolin Zhang has spent half of her life so far in China and half in Canada. Informed by her experience as a 1.5-generation immigrant, her practice navigates her relationship with placelessness and (non)belonging in a hyper-globalized world. She is interested in creating works that embody both closeness and distance - the simultaneous desire to belong and to resist being defined.
BA Double Major in Visual Arts and Art History, University of British Columbia
Zhang's recent work has been shown with White Columns, Centre of International Contemporary Art, Vancouver Art Book Fair, Beijing Design Week, Field Projects, Centre A: Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, The Bows, Canton-Sardine, The Reach Gallery Museum, and Surrey Art Gallery, among others.
National and international features include Dazed, CBC Arts, SAD Mag, Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures and the Americas, and PRISM international.
Zhang has also participated in residencies including Casa Lü (Mexico City), Acentric Space (Shanghai), Kunstraum (New York City) and Deer Lake Residency (Vancouver).
