My work usually stems from something that has caught my eye in the street, on the bus or in the market. Those places of transit that are temporal and public. I intend to draw attention to these moments and objects that we may have briefly noticed, but rarely take time to consider in any depth. From these observations I recontextualise the everyday and ordinary. For example, the crumpled form of a parking meter cover becomes an out of order plinth; a dog walkers poo bag stuck in a tree is cast and displayed like a painting.
I work with ideas of assemblage, tromp l’oeil and value systems; constructing works from found objects that are cast or remade. I try to negotiate the definitions of painting and sculpture, although without the works becoming tied down to a definite position or meaning. I want each work to have the ability to shift and change. Casts of concrete paving slabs become canvases, twisted and contorted domestic sponges become brush marks. Hopefully the end result reflects an absurd rethinking of the materials that are incidental in our everyday lives.
