Jaeho Jung

I am usually making oil paintings and wall installations.
My main interest lies in re-composing the refracted memories of urban surroundings that lie dormant in the subconscious and then appear. To recall something is to re-compose it, and to know or speak of a past event is also possible through re-composition. Today, our thoughts are even more divided and fragmented. In my paintings and wall works, based on a digital way of thinking, I employ layering and collage re-composition, which are important techniques in digital image processing. These are effective methods of revealing refracted memories. For me, a wall installation is a space where painterliness, as well as what distinguishes it from a painting can be shown. if painting appeals more to the internal sensibilities, wall installation is attractive because it allows one to approach that is filtered out by painting. Its transitory character produces more free and direct feelings and expressions, and enables one to focus on the pleasure afforded by the situation in which the work and the space become one.
