Violet Yin

Violet Yin is a painter and educator who was born in Shanghai, China. She is living and working in New York City. Throughout her time at SAIC, Violet has thoroughly invested herself in the timeworn practice of observational painting. She believes that figuration, representation is the foundation of abstraction. After her study trip to Mont Castello, Italy during the summer of 2015, she was fascinated by the excitement of the interaction between color and shape during her plein air experience. Gradually, she started working towards more abstract approach from observational inspirations. She found the incredible nature of visual elements. In her recent works, she chose colored pencil and acrylic as the media. The complimentary color choices and unpredictable compositions reflect Violet’s endless curiosity towards the world around her. The chosen lens is not just for documenting the existing objects, it is also for releasing the interpretation and imagination of the artist towards her surroundings.
