Self-taught artist Vernika Singh (b. 1993) describes her paintings as ‘memoryscapes,’ where each work is motivated by a particular memory from her personal life. There is a terrestrial quality to Singh’s canvases as she guides us through an aerial view of liquid landscapes, plunging us into the depths of the ocean. As an abstract painter, Singh engages with the variety of ways colour responds to surfaces, the distinct qualities of acrylic and oil, and the effects created via a paint brush or spray gun. Her experiments go beyond the boundaries of colour to create visual sensations and open-ended experiences for the viewer.
Singh has participated in group exhibitions including GAAF’20 at RMZ Foundation, Bangalore (2020); HT Imagine Fest at Gallerie Nvya, New Delhi (2020); Goa Affordable Art Fest 2019 at Museum of Goa, Goa (Dec 2019-Feb 2020); Live Unbound at NGMA, New Delhi (2019) and When the caged bird sings at The Lodhi with Apparao Galleries and Anant Art (2018). Singh graduated in Instrumentation and Control engineering (2014) and worked at Wipro before establishing her studio in 2015. She lives and works in New Delhi.
