Jorge Silveira

Jorge Silveira exhibits and his work has been selling briskly for the past few years in Sag Harbor, Long Island, a village in the Hamptons, close to New York City. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, he grew up in Punta del Este, the famous beach resort of South America. After dedicating his teen years to soccer, and being tapped by a professional team, he decided to leave his home country and made his way through Latin America until he arrived in the USA, where he worked for many years in advertizing, at Saatchi and Saatchi, New York. He started his life in art by picking up flotsam and jetsam on the beaches of Long Island, odds and ends discarded by people, tossed and turned by the sea, and putting them together in sculptural compositions. This lead to incorporating salt and sea-won pieces into three-dimensional paintings, adding acrylic paint and using wood as his base. He is self-taught, a true Outsider artist, finding beauty and mening in discarded materials, recycling scraps of rough wood and metal into raw energized creations.
