Modernistic, Impressionist style artist. His paintings, often reminiscent of Stanley Spencer, reflect his fascination with gardens, plants and trees. Other paintings also reflect his connections to France, Paris in particular, and are notably influenced by the Impressionists. His paintings in the modernistic Impressionist manner, are unique of their kind. Early influences were Maurice de Sausmarez, and Ruskin Spear. Later he was chosen by Pietro Annigoini to pursue studies in portraiture.
Charles Sanderson studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art 1967-1970 under Maurice de Sausmarez and at the Hammersmith College 1969-1972 under Ruskin Spear. He has produced many drawings, watercolours and prints of the countryside, as well as dramatic city scenes, still-lifes and landscapes in oil. Charles has travelled extensively, to France, Germany, America, Malaysia and Australia and his painting style is strongly influenced by the French Impressionists. He is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
