Poghos Petrosyan

Poghos Petrosyan (born 1954) is a contemporary Armenian painter, born in Georgia and currently living and working in Armenia. His artistic practice has developed at the intersection of diverse cultural and artistic environments, bringing together classical academic training, graphic discipline, and an increasingly free painterly exploration.

Having studied at the Panos Terlemezyan College of Fine Arts and later continuing his education in Leningrad, Petrosyan developed a strong sense of structure and compositional order. Over time, this foundation gradually opened toward a more intuitive and liberated visual language. His background in graphic art remains clearly evident, particularly in the organization of the picture plane, the rhythmic use of line, and the careful construction of spatial balance.

Petrosyan’s work exists at the threshold between landscape and abstraction, yet it avoids the depiction of any specific or identifiable place. In his paintings, landscape functions as a generalized spatial system, where movement, internal rhythm, and subtle chromatic relationships take precedence over representation. Here, landscape becomes a field of contemplation, open to interpretation rather than description.
