I was born in 1942 in war-ravaged Budapest. As a boy, I learned about the art of painting from my father who, at the time was a poor, yet very talented and well-recognized landscape artist in Europe.
In my youth, I had to learn to fend for myself and escaped Hungary during the Freedom Revolution in 1956. I emigrated to Canada, where I was quickly initiated into the world of artists, art dealers and antique collectors. I learned about painting, art restoration, antiques, gold gilding and various other techniques, where I earned my living as an antique dealer, restorer and understudy.
As a young man, I met Doris McCarthy, a talented painter who was a pupil of Arthur Lismer, a member of the Group of Seven. She was the first woman to become the president of the Ontario Society of Artists. She took me under her wing while I was studying art. With her tutelage and guidance, I launched several successful exhibitions in the 60’s and 70’s and enjoyed success as a young emerging artist.
At the age of 28, I got married and put my painting career on hold to dedicate the next four decades of my life to providing for my family. I became an entrepreneur in various industries and achieved success in the business world.
