Malinda Jayasinghe

Influenced by both classical and modern art, my work comprises elements from representational and abstract realism. Initially focusing on photorealism in portraiture with the use of graphite and charcoal pencils, my current body of work experiments the use of mixed media along with contemporary contextualization.

The work is primarily figurative and explores the relationships and anxieties relating to human life. My artwork takes a critical view of society, on cultural issues often referencing subjectivity of beauty and questioning our place in the modern civilization. It attempts to express the 'issues of being’, and living in the early years of the 21st century.
