Juan Escauriaza

I was born in Madrid in 1961. My true passion was always for Art and from 1994 I dedicated myself solely to painting professionally. I am entirely a self taught artist.

The American landscape has been a source of inspiration for my paintings. From 2000 I visit the US frequently.

"I try to isolate beauty from objects otherwise ignored. For me this is the intellectual and really creative part of my work process, where ideas get arranged and I make decisions. Almost always, my iconography revolves around the city as a homage to one of the greatest human achievements. I am drawn to those elements of the landscape that many of us might pass by without registering a second glance. I try to allow the viewer of my artwork to observe the everyday with a new perspective."

PhD in Geological Sciences and postgraduate in Hydro-Geology and Paleontology.

20 Solo Shows in Europe, Asia and US, including a major retrospective sponsored by the City Hall of Madrid in 2009.
