Nevena Zivkovic

I am a Serbian artist living and working in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

My practice combines wall painting with experimental approaches to materials, exploring the relationship between textiles, embroidery, and rough surfaces such as concrete and plaster. I often work with found and discarded materials, examining their relationship to time, space, and transience. I am interested in the relationship between the individual and social systems, particularly in how these structures shape our experience of space and identity.

My work is inspired by industrial landscapes and Brutalist architecture, whose rawness and monumentality I contrast with fragility and intimacy.

Alongside my work with materials and space, I create artist’s books that reflect my experiences of life in the Balkans and my personal perspective on the political and social realities of Serbia and the Czech Republic. In 2024, my artist’s book Parasites, exploring the relationship between the individual and the social system, received an award at the international BookVision exhibition in Ostrava.
