David Gericke

David Gericke is an international visual artist, sculptor, and curator based in Germany. With an academic background in pedagogy, painting, and sculpture, his career is defined by a rigorous mastery of materials and a deep intellectual engagement with the creative process. Having exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Venice Biennale (Palazzo Bembo), Gericke has established himself as a prominent voice in contemporary art. His work is characterized by a seamless dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and modern conceptual exploration, bridging the gap between historical techniques and contemporary aesthetics.
My work explores the intersection of physical presence and metaphysical reflection. Whether working with large-format oil paintings or contemporary metal sculptures, I focus on the nuances of space, the movement of shadows, and the inherent weight of the material. My practice is deeply influenced by the discipline of Zen meditation and the fluidity of Sumi-e (ink painting), integrating a sense of "presence" into every gesture. I seek to challenge the transience of modern trends by emphasizing technical rigor and the profound relationship between the artist’s hand and the raw element.
