ABOUT
Gian Guido Grassi is an italian contemporary artist, born in Turin in 1967, where he lives and works.
His painting came from a pressing need for contact with others, with oneself, with nature and one’s environment.
With an emotional representation, it evokes worlds halfway between the real and the imaginary. From the external observation of the subject, it reaches interiority. Human figures are the heart of his focus.
His works are organized into cycles.
The first, “Atlantis”, created in the 1990s, is set in the deep sea. Naked and restless humans have adapted to living underwater after their continent sank. They are caught in various attitudes and situations and tend towards the lost place of their origin. It is the mythical Atlantis, transformed into a luminous sphere in the darkness blue-greenish, that represents the serenity of the Golden Age.
In the cycle “Gravit-azioni” (gravity-actions), the ground and the force of gravity are the elements in which relationships are created among the human figures. They are energies, that in the first paintings are depicted in the surrounding environment.
