Anne-Marie Verpoucke is a Belgian artist with a broad background in the visual arts, ceramics, textile design, painting and photography. She studied at the art academy in Bruges in the late 1960s and subsequently worked in a ceramics studio, followed by a period in wich she created designs for furniture fabrics. As a painter, she exhibited naive art and worked on commission for ten years on impressionistic paintings of gardens. From 1999, she focused on photography, while simultaneously continuing to experiment with various materials and techniques. Her current work includes small polymer clay sculptures and imaginary landscapes ranging from expressionistic to semi abstract. She works intuitively, without prior sketches, and is guided by organic forms, imperfection, and a playful mix of rococo influences and contemporary kitsch.
