Charles Osaro

My practice explores the tension between personal and collective experience where i talk about themes on society, politics, memory and the realities of everyday people. Through portraiture, I examine how we exists within complex social, cultural, politcal and psychological systems.

The subject i paint functions as a site of presence and witness to what i talk about. A marker of selfhood, awareness, and internal truth. In contrast, the backgrounds operate as visual fields of shared memory, societal pressure, and unseen forces that continuously shape and redefine the us.

Seeing Life Through Contrasts, I deliberately reduce visual distraction to emphasize contrast, light, and emotional structure. This restrained palette reflects a deeper duality: Light and darkness, Hope and despair, Good and evil, Presence and absence clarity and confusion, control and chaos, individuality and conformity. Within this limited range, I find a heightened capacity to communicate psychological, poetic depth and tension.
