Monika Bektas

Contemporary painter working across expressionist portraiture, abstraction, and mixed media.

Working primarily in oil, I explore transformation and suspension through form, colour, gesture, and material. My work ranges from expressive portraits to abstract and elemental compositions.

Real copper is a defining element in much of my work. As one of humanity’s oldest metals, connected to the earth, the body, and Venus, it carries associations of vitality, femininity, and time. Incorporated directly into the image, copper can conceal, divide, or become part of the composition, while its surface catches and reflects light.

Across my work, forms shift, fragment, merge, and reappear, creating a sense of movement and becoming.
