Mahi Agarwal

My work is a continuous exploration of the world that surrounds us. As Alberto Giacometti once wrote, “Je ne sais ce que je vois qu'en travaillant”—I only know what I see by working. For me, drawing is that essential way to understand.

Born at the juncture of different cultures and epochs, I first learned to appreciate Western masters before tracing my steps back to Asian aesthetics. I relate deeply to the Japanese principles of Wabi-sabi, where capturing the essence of a subject means choosing simplicity and eliminating clutter. Beauty here lies in asymmetry and the power of the unfinished—elements that spark curiosity and I grant the viewer the freedom to find their own meaning within the space

My process is about seeking a fundamental harmony. By withdrawing from the world's effort into a stillness, I allow for an expression of reality guided by the inner spirit—a quiet, concentrated movement toward the universal.
