Laura Newbury

My happy place is the dining room table.

I grew up on a vineyard in WA’s Great Southern region, and a career in hospitality has since taken me all over the world. Meeting many people, from many from many cultures, I was struck how the joy, passion, love and chaos that can accompany meal times, is universal. In my work I try to capture some of that feeling.

I fell in love with printmaking in high school and since then I've experimented and self taught to develop a unique mixed media practice. My work reflects the various moods of dining encounters and other domestic scenes. Im particularly interested in the things that are left behind after a meal shared: not just the empty bottles and the food stains, but the happy memories and the relationships forged and fortified.

My work combine a whimsy, understated spirit of hospitality, as well a small obsession with chairs and floor rugs.

I am based in Albany in Western Australia and I love to eat.
