Val Archer

I work in London and in Tuscany where I have studios. My subjects are closely observed fruits, flowers and everyday objects set against painted, coloured, patterned and textured surfaces. I draw upon an extensive range of artists, past and present, particularly Dutch still life and early Italian painters.

I was born in England and studied at Manchester College of Art and then obtained my MA at the Royal College of Art.

My work is widely exhibited and collected. After leaving the Royal College solo exhibitions of my paintings followed with leading galleries in Germany, Holland and the UK along with participation in numerous group shows and undertaking painting and illustration commissions for publishers, magazines and national newspapers. I was also appointed to co-create the Tate Gallery’s award-winning exhibition about the history of art materials and of colour and technique in painting.

For the past 25 years a leading St James’s, London gallery has staged regular one-person exhibitions of my work. My prints are a new departure.
