Sophie Reid is a fiber artist originally from England, now living in Brooklyn with her husband and son. During an RV road trip through the U.S. National Parks, Sophie sought a creative escape from the computer screen, bringing only thread and paper with her—this started a whole new chapter of fiber art. These works pays homage to centuries-old embroidery traditions while embracing geometric abstraction. By blending diverse cultural influences and techniques—from bookbinding and graphic design to weaving—she creates modern tapestries on paper.
Each piece, whether large or small, is intricately hand-stitched into recycled cotton rag paper, a technique that Sophie has honed over the past ten years. Her approach is a meticulous process of layering threads and textures, creating a tactile experience that engages both the eye and the hand. The repetition of patterns and geometric forms serves as the backbone of her work, giving it a sense of order and structure.
