Carl Nielson

Carl Nielson is an artist and illustrator working in the Mid-Atlantic region. Inherently political and deeply personal, Carl’s work centers on un-fixing subjects in portraiture, using motion as a vehicle for challenging traditional methods of representation without abandoning (or overdetermining) a thing’s physical form.

By rendering living things in motion, with all their angles, beauties, uglinesses, obfuscations, and overlapping identities, Carl’s subjects speak as and for themselves, free from the artist’s influence.

Carl also has three kids and BFA from East Carolina University.
