Laura Hantari

My studies in literature, theology, philosophy, and functional neurology have shaped my interest in the relationships between perception, imagination, and meaning. I came to painting as a personal pursuit, developing my practice through self-directed learning.

At the heart of this practice lies a question: how does an image become a presence? I explore this through colour, material, and symbols, as well as through the memories and associations that the viewer brings to the encounter. An image takes shape in this exchange, where what is seen meets what is remembered, imagined, and thought.

I am fascinated by the passage between the imaginary, the imaginal, and reality, and by the capacity of painting to give form to what remains beyond explicit expression. My paintings invite the viewer not to identify an image or settle upon an interpretation, but to explore a world—a world open to the possibility of recovering a sense of the infinite.
