My work is inspired by rhythms I observe in nature: growth, decay, movement, resilience, and transformations that exist in organisms and environments. I like looking at the tensions between structures and spontaneity.
I like contrasts and oppositions. This is why I work primarily with fluid media, but in ways that resist full control, by collaborating with the materials I use, rather than deciding the outcomes from the start. Over time, I've come to have a very dynamic approach to the way I create my art. I'm spontaneous with my choice of color, but methodical with the placement, I'm unpredictable in the way I make forms emerge, but I highlight certain aspects with fine-liners to bring focus.
What defines my artistic approach is a balance and juxtaposition between chaos and precision. I allow my art to take form and evolve through unconstrained layers, then bring linework or structure to guide the final composition. Each piece is a process of finding the meaning from the process, rather than beginning with a fixed idea.
Ultimately, I am to create work that leaves space for the viewers, where they can return and find new detail, a new feeling, a new perspective.
