Carole Rydeheard

I paint in acrylic, gesso and oil pastel. I use a limited muted colour palette and like to experiment with different surfaces especially used plywood boards.
I paint from memory taking inspiration from the patina of old buildings, especially churches in France where the colours of the plaster have worn and mellowed and the marble floors have weathered into a cool and gentle identity. I have recently completed a series of work inspired by an abandoned convent and a 17th century church in the old part of Nice. I hope to convey a feeling of spirituality and calm, not in a conventional religious sense, but for the viewer to interpret as they wish.
My latest series of work is entitled Flight encompassing air travel in the literal sense and in its wider sense concepts of escape and seeking freedom
