Matthew E N Timms

My work is made up of vibrant portraits, scenes from nature, and images I have created from my imagination that tell a story or capture a particular mood. My style is often dream-like, and I love to explore bold colour fields, distinctive lines, and shapes. Having been a musician for most of my life, it was only fairly recently in the first UK lockdown that I became prolific with my painting and put myself out there as an artist.

Growing up in Oxford in the 1980s, I would create pictures of nature and people, often from my imagination. My love of colour and form grew steadily through the years, prompting me to take an A-level in art, which is when the range of media and materials I used expanded significantly. I was taught to paint animals in acrylic by professional artist Dave White, and I later developed the skills I learned into human portraiture which led to me receiving the award of Vibrant Portait Artist of the Year by the Warwrickshire Advertiser in 2023.
