Alison Adams is a mixed media artist based near Tetbury, in the heart of the Cotswolds in England. Inspired by the wild, varied beauty of the surrounding landscape, her work celebrates the organic forms of nature — often reimagined into fantastical creatures and plant life that blur the boundary between the real and the whimsical.

Her process is intuitive and exploratory. Alison often begins with playful experimentation, allowing the subject to emerge organically as she works. This approach aligns with aleatory art (from the Latin alea, meaning “dice”), embracing chance and unpredictability as creative tools. The result is a body of work that feels alive, spontaneous, and richly varied, spanning animals, botanicals, landscapes, still life, and abstraction.

Working primarily in mixed media, Alison combines acrylic paint with collage — an art form she feels is both underappreciated and endlessly versatile. She is drawn to layering, texture, and unexpected juxtapositions, creating depth and visual intrigue within each piece.

Her aim is to create bold, uplifting pieces that bring energy, curiosity, and a sense of joy into any space. At the heart of her practice is a spirit of play, discovery, and transformation — qualities she hopes...

Although art has always been part of her life — her mother was also an artist — Alison’s path has been unconventional. She originally trained (in both the UK and the USA) and worked as a dentist before her career was cut short by mercury poisoning following an in-surgery incident. In search of healing, she retrained as a naturopath and largely recovered. After navigating several serious health challenges, including life-threatening accidents, she has returned to art in the 'retirement years' she never thought she would live to see with renewed energy and purpose.

In autumn 2024, she held a 6-week solo exhibition entitled 'A Sense of Place' at Tetbury Goods Shed, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, showcasing nearly 90 pieces that reflect her unique vision and vibrant approach to life and art.

During 2025 she contributed to the 'Fresh Prints' exhibition at the Gloucestershire Print Cooperative in Stroud, Gloucestershire; the 'Summer Exhibition' at The White Horse Bookshop in Marlborough, Wiltshire, and the 'Indulgence' exhibition at Spencer House Gallery in Tetbury, Gloucestershire.

She recently held a month-long solo exhibition 'Flora, Fauna and Fantasy' in February 2026 at the Corinium Museum Art Gallery in the historic Roman city of Cirencester in Gloucestershire.

She is the winner of 'Most Expressive Mixed Media Artist' and 'Best Mixed Media and Collage Artist' as awarded by The Greater London Enterprise Council in 2025, and of LUXLife's Best Mixed Media and Collage Artist Award (SW England) 2025.
