Ibrahim Hasanov

Ibrahim Hasanov paints and sculpts the people, music and landscapes of Azerbaijan: dervishes and kings, musicians and dreamers, the light of the Absheron. His figures are built from mosaic-like patches of colour, somewhere between folk tale and modern painting.

Born in Baku in 1953, he graduated from the Azim Azimzade State Art School (1973) and the Azerbaijan University of Arts (1982). His debut solo exhibition in Baku in 1990 brought together painting, sculpture, graphics and "soft sculpture". A solo exhibition in London followed in 1991, the year he joined the Azerbaijan Union of Artists. In 1995 he was invited to live and work in Turkey, and in 2023 he returned to Baku with a new solo exhibition.
