Catherine Cantwell

I am a self-taught abstract artist. Much of the colour and subject matter in my art references my own experiences and emotions around stunning landscapes in NZ where I was born and Australia where I now live.

I have been a TV Producer for over 20 years, working for overseas TV networks and Australian broadcasters. I am also a casting director for award winning reality and factual shows.

As a child, and right through my 20's, 30's and 40's I have loved to paint and create, but it wasn’t until two years ago that I painted really consistently after the loss of my mother. It was the driving force in finding an outlet and a way to work through the grief.

I love to use acrylic, concentrating on bright, bold colour combinations – challenging the idea of traditional colour in everyday scenery and incorporating big loose brush strokes to allow a sense of movement.

I am motivated to make my mum proud and to bring joy to someone’s day with my pieces of art.
