Helen Quneberg
My work is created in the style of naive art or surrealist primitivism.
In my practice, I explore the themes of the erosion of normalcy, political dysfunction, and social catastrophe. I employ deep allegories and metaphors to describe contemporary social and political realities. My paintings offer a vision of modern Russia seen through the prism of prohibitions and internal societal tragedies.
Through state symbols, I examine the pressure the system exerts on the individual. My goal as an artist is not merely to document the anxiety of the era, but to compel the viewer to pause and ask: “Where do the imposed decorations end and our authentic lives begin?”
