Shims Seng is a Singapore-based painter trained in architecture. Her paintings explore still life interiors shaped by tropical flora, domestic objects, collected books, and spatial distortion. Working primarily in acrylic on linen and canvas, she constructs layered interior scenes where perception, memory, and atmosphere converge to create quiet psychological spaces.
Her architectural training informs the way she constructs and distorts space, while influences from modernist painting and Southeast Asian domestic environments shape her approach to colour, pattern, and composition. Plants, ceramics, textiles, books, and everyday objects recur throughout her work as fragments of lived experience, carrying a sense of memory, place, and familiarity.
Shims' paintings transform these familiar interiors into contemplative spaces, where the boundaries between what is observed, remembered, and imagined remain fluid.
