Tanya Vacarda is a contemporary fresco and mixed-media artist whose practice bridges the heritage craft of decorative plastering and fresco with contemporary fine art.
Working extensively with mineral-based materials and Italian stucco, she explores surface as a sculptural and sensory medium.
Her process involves a deep technical investigation of material and colour behaviour, layering pigments, acrylics, inks, and embroidery to create tactile compositions that shift with light and perspective.
Vacarda’s frescos and plaster artworks are developed through a meticulous, multi-stage process in which pigmented stucco, colour, and surface relief are built gradually through successive layers. Subtle adjustments in pressure, pigment absorption, and drying behaviour shape the final surface, allowing intricate tonal transitions and structural depth to emerge. Vacarda’s surfaces become the works’ singular material identity — impossible to reproduce or replicate.
Vacarda’s original artworks are held in private collections and commissioned by interior agencies across the UK, Europe, North America, and Asia.
