Oleh Orlov is a German artist and graduate of the Ivan Fedorov Ukrainian Academy of Printing (1998), whose creative focus spans painting and sculpture.
His signature medium is burl wood — rare, organic growths on trees that form droplet-like, spherical, or ring-shaped patterns with swirling, marble-like grain.
Orlov transforms these extraordinary natural formations into one-of-a-kind root sculptures. His works have been exhibited both in Germany and internationally, captivating audiences with the seamless harmony between organic material and the limitless possibilities of human imagination.
Inspired by the raw beauty of nature, he sees a hidden story in every fragment of wood. Orlov studies the curves of roots, the gentle lines of branches, and the mesmerizing patterns of burl, revealing forms that radiate warmth, passion, and elegance.
