Ikorm Ogar is a Nigerian visual artist and curator whose practice centers on hyperrealistic ballpoint pen drawing as a tool for social and cultural commentary. His work explores themes of identity, silence, pressure, faith, and lived African experiences, translating everyday realities into highly detailed, contemplative images.
Working primarily with ballpoint pen, Ikorm employs patience, repetition, and precision as both technique and concept. Each drawing is developed through an intensive process of controlled lines, allowing emotion, memory, and narrative to emerge gradually on paper. His approach positions hyperrealism not merely as technical display, but as a means of storytelling and critical observation.
Ikorm Ogar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (First Class Honours) in Fine and Applied Arts (Painting) from the University of Benin, Nigeria. His academic training provided a strong foundation in drawing, painting, visual analysis, and conceptual development, which continues to inform his hyperrealistic practice.
During his undergraduate studies, Ikorm actively participated in studio research, exhibitions, and artistic collaborations, with a growing focus on realism and social commentary. His academic interests extend into contemporary African art discourse, particularly the use of hyperrealism as a medium for visual storytelling and critical reflection.
Ikorm Ogar has participated in group exhibitions and student-led art shows, presenting works that explore identity, emotion, and everyday African experiences through hyperrealistic drawing. Ikorm has exhibited his works in notable group exhibitions, including the BIC Art Master Africa 2022 and the BIC Art Master Virtual Gallery Exhibition 2024. His works have been displayed in academic and independent art spaces, contributing to conversations around drawing as both a technical and conceptual medium.
